On September 23-24, you are invited to join members of the Academic Technology team to discover the role that collaborative learning, facilitated by IT, can play in our classrooms. The event, Flattening the Classroom: Building Collaborative Learning Environments, is a two-day virtual focus session, organized by the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative.

Through a series of virtual presentations, lightning rounds, and discussion sessions, we’ll explore an approach to learning that engages students in the active construction of collective knowledge, empowering them to build meaning together and challenging them to examine issues from multiple perspectives. The event is designed to be interactive and participatory; our on-campus team will be watching the presentations as a group and then engaging in guided group discussion and reflection around the issues, helping us drive home the lessons learned and laying the groundwork for future classroom collaborations.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, September 23-24 from 10a-3p and CU’s Academic Technology team invites you to join them in Stadium 367.

By participating with the team, you’ll have an opportunity to meet new colleagues, learn about projects already under way on campus, and begin building connections that will last beyond the event. If you’d like to join us, please e-mail Mark Werner by the end of the day Monday, September 21st to reserve your space.

For further information, please contact Mark Werner. Full program details can be found online at the EDUCAUSE website.

As opposed to how transitions were handled in years past, the transition from one platform to another will include a year-long “overlap” period, during which you will have the option of using either one. After that period, the campus will switch to the new platform.

The ASSETT program recently announced a new resource for all Arts and Sciences units called TTAs:

TTAs can assist any A&S unit with general tasks relating to teaching and technology. The intent is to help with the tasks that are outside of the domain of central IT services (Bugbusters, Classroom Support, or DATCs).

For example, they can help enter or maintain content for websites related to the educational mission of your unit. TTAs can provide an “extra set of hands” to an instructor working on a project, as a classroom assistant, or to staff with teaching & learning related projects. TTAs can also perform preventative maintenance on instructional equipment to help decrease the number of times that problems might occur.

All services are free-of-charge. If you would like to request TTA help, please contact ASSETT’s program assistant, Jaime Moreland, at 303-735-3813 or assett@colorado.edu.
